Wastewater Treatment PlantSioux CityHelping a Community Prepare for Future Growth
Sioux City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant has undergone a $71 million, multi-phase renovation project. Originally constructed in 1961, the plant upgrade was needed to increase capacity, upgrade equipment, modernize processes, and to meet new more stringent state and federal water quality regulations. Though different general contractors were used for the job phases, Thompson Electric was the electrical contractor of choice for the duration of the job.
Our scope of work included installation of the new underground duct bank power distribution system, new transformers, 4160v motors, and combo starters. We provided integration of instrumentation and controllers from building to building, including PLCs, MCCs, variable frequency drives, fire alarm, lighting, the new HVAC systems. Thompson Electric had to install the systems in phases, and then coordinate changeovers with other trades, to bring each system online without interruption to the existing plant processes. Our experience with treatment facilities, harsh environments and related equipment, and unique electrical requirements such as classified areas, enabled our project team to earn the confidence of the city and the contractors. The completed facility will benefit the communities it serves with a fully renovated, efficient facility.
