The innovative five story treatment center includes many unique patient and family friendly areas such as an atrium, a feature waterfall, bistro, library and performance area.  Prior to project completion, the fourth floor opened as a surgery center while construction of the facility continued on the other levels.  This added the challenge of working on the power and life safety systems, without interruption of service to the areas that were already treating patients. 

The new facility was designed to include state-of-the-art technology and medical equipment throughout for diagnosis, treatment and healing programs.  Our scope of work included not only the standard lighting, power, voice/data and life safety systems, but also included cutting-edge systems such as the coded electronic boards used to allow family members to track patients from preparation to surgery to recovery, ceiling sensors that will track infrared staff ID badges, medication dispensing robots, linear accelerators, CT rooms, even a large-scale pneumatic tube delivery system.

The diversity of the Avera Cancer Institute project provided us the opportunity to use our knowledge and experience to save the client a substantial amount of money through value engineering both before and during the job.   We were able to provide cost cutting alternatives for materials and methods that still maintained their high standard of quality.  Our prefabrication of common assemblies reduced congestion in the work areas, and helped to keep the job ahead of schedule.
